Membership in the National Association for Presiding Judges and Court Executive Officers is open to presiding, chief and leadership judges, court executives and others interested in improving state and local trial courts. Eligible trial courts include general, limited and special jurisdiction courts of all sizes. Particular emphasis is placed on top court leadership teams in trial courts and what those leaders need to know and do together to improve the administration of justice.

Court executives must initially be designated for membership by their chief/presiding judge, but once they are members they may remain so in good standing by paying their annual dues even though their presiding/chief judges may change from time to time, or they retire from public service, or they assume another job either inside or outside a trial court. Chief administrative judges may also remain members in good standing by paying their annual dues after their tenure as a leader-judge, or they retire from public service, or they take a position either inside or outside the trial court system.
