Past Conferences

Each year since 1963, the National Association for Presiding Judges and Court Executive Officers — formerly known as the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts — has held an educational meeting.  The only two exceptions were in 2009, when the annual gathering was cancelled due to widespread trial court budget and economic problems occasioned by the Great Recession; and in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Educational programming touches a wide variety of state and local trial court subjects pertaining to general, limited and special jurisdictions. Samples of the some of the educational agendas developed in recent years (2008 – 2016) and the host courts that coordinated the various conferences are listed below. Click on the agenda to view/download a conference program…

Early Site / Date Chronology: 1963 – 2007

Little data is available in the historical record as to conference events and topics during the initial 44 years the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts existed. Board meeting minutes, however, indicate many of the issues dealt with methods and techniques to reduce unnecessary court delay, the impetus upon which the Conference was founded in the early 1960s.
